BOGOTA, Chile — Bio Shopping is a grocery retailer with more than 1,000 stores across Latin America and the Caribbean.
It recently reported a net loss of $6.6 billion last year, down from a year earlier.
The company’s chief executive, Ricardo Humberto, said last week that Whole Foods was not the right fit for the company.
The acquisition of Whole Foods is part of the company’s push to diversify and reduce the reliance on its own product.
Humberto has been the company CEO since 2011.
The grocery giant is also buying up several specialty grocers, including JBS, and it said it would spend $1.8 billion to buy its specialty grocery business, the Bruges Brugge.
