BioShopping Bags has been accused of ripping off customers by offering “fake products” online.
Key points: BioShoppers claims the items in their catalogs were sold by BioWare and not BioWare’s own retailers”BioWare” is a trademarked name for BioWare, the game developer and publisher that runs the BioWare franchise of video games.
The company’s website and Facebook page offer “authentic” and “real” products, but BioWare products are often misleading.
In a statement, BioShops’ head of retail operations, Rob Wills, said the company was “committed to maintaining our brand integrity and is confident that we can deliver an authentic BioWare experience on our site”.
“We have no reason to believe that these items are not authentic and genuine,” Mr Wills said.
He said BioWare was “confident that we will be able to deliver our BioWare games at a great value for our customers”.
“Our goal is to ensure that our customers have access to BioWare content at a price that they can afford,” he said.
BioWare did not respond to ABC Radio South Australia’s request for comment.
In response, BioWare said the items on the BioShopped store were not products from BioWare stores, and the BioShop website was “just a placeholder”.
“BioShopping offers real products and they’re authentic.
This is a lot of nonsense,” Mr Condon said.”
It’s misleading and we’ve got to stop it.”
BioWare’s BioWare Store is open to anyone, and it sells a wide range of BioWare merchandise including video games, toys, collectibles, and even the latest Star Wars toys.
The store is in the CBD, and customers can purchase up to three items a day.
The Australian Consumer Law Centre has called for BioShooters to stop using the Bio Ware name and trademarks.
“This is an egregious attempt to rip off consumers who are already paying a lot for the products they are buying,” consumer advocate Susan Green said.
“They’re also hurting themselves by creating this false sense of legitimacy.”
They’ve got no intention of making it any more legitimate.”‘
We’re not in the business of making fake products’The ACCC said the scam could result in a consumer being unable to buy a product, or not getting the product they wanted.”
If consumers are unaware that their purchases are being made by a company they’ve never heard of and it is not a legitimate BioWare product, consumers could be left out of pocket,” Ms Green said
